Egg Collector Trap

The Egg Collector Trap is a clever passive device designed for species that scatter non-adhesive eggs freely over the substrate. A rigid acrylic or plastic grid is placed across the floor of the breeding tank; as eggs are released during spawning, they fall through the slots and collect in a protected chamber below, completely inaccessible to the spawning adults.

This method dramatically improves hatch rates in species such as tetras, barbs, danios, and goldfish, where adults routinely consume their own eggs. The lower collection tray can be removed and placed in a separate hatching container with an air stone, or left in place under the grid until eggs hatch. The grid is easy to clean and reusable indefinitely. Setup is straightforward and requires no tools.
