Egg-Layer Spawning Grid

The Egg-Layer Spawning Grid is a practical and low-cost solution to egg predation by parents. Placed across the floor of a bare-bottom breeding tank, the grid creates a physical barrier between adults and their eggs. As eggs are released during spawning, they fall through the 5mm grid openings and collect in the space beneath, where adults cannot reach them.

This approach is particularly effective for species that spawn repeatedly over the grid during a single session, such as goldfish, tetras, and barbs. Once spawning is complete, the adults are removed and the grid lifted to allow access to the collected eggs for transfer to a hatching container. The grid is cut to size for a snug fit, preventing fish from swimming around the edges. Multiple grids can be stacked at different heights for species with different spawning behaviours.
