Egg Yarn Spawning Mop Set

This set of three acrylic yarn spawning mops covers the three main spawning zones used by different egg-laying species. The shortest, densest mop is designed for surface spawners; the medium mop with a cork float sits at mid-water; and the longest weighted mop rests near the substrate, mimicking fine bottom vegetation. Having all three available simultaneously allows breeders to accommodate multiple species or to find the preference of an unknown species quickly.

Acrylic yarn is chosen for its similarity to fine-leaved aquatic plants and its resistance to fungal breakdown in water. Eggs can be picked from the strands with a fine pipette, or entire mops can be transferred to a hatching container. Each mop is made with a sufficient density of strands to hold dozens of eggs from a single spawning event.
