Erythromicron Danio

Danio erythromicron, the Emerald Dwarf Danio, is one of the most jewel-like members of its genus and is endemic to Lake Inle and associated waters in the Shan State of Myanmar. Males are stunning, displaying 10–15 turquoise-blue vertical bars on a body that glows orange-red or copper when in breeding condition. Females are more subdued but still attractive. The species inhabits shallow, clear, alkaline-to-neutral water with abundant vegetation, which is atypical for a danio. In the aquarium it prefers slightly harder, neutral water and does best in heavily planted tanks with a dark substrate where its colours intensify. A dedicated nano tank or species tank of 30 L upward is ideal. Compatible with other very small, peaceful fish such as Microdevario and small Boraras.
