Esomus thermoicos

Esomus thermoicos is a flying barb species associated with warm lowland waters, including thermal springs and warm-water streams, in Southeast Asia. Like other Esomus, it possesses elongated pectoral fins capable of propelling it out of the water when alarmed or during feeding frenzies — necessitating an absolutely secure lid. The body is slender, torpedo-shaped, and silvery with subtle golden iridescence. It is a surface to upper-water schooler that benefits from floating plants to reduce its skittishness. Water should be warm (24–30 °C), soft to moderately hard, and slightly acidic to neutral. In the aquarium it adapts readily to captivity and accepts small floating foods. It is peaceful with all fish too large to be swallowed. Groups of eight or more minimise stress and produce natural schooling behaviour.
