Brevibora dorsiocellata is a small schooling cyprinid from slow, shaded streams of the Thai-Malay Peninsula and Sumatra. Its most notable feature is the prominent dark spot ringed with lighter scales at the base of the dorsal fin — believed to function as a false eye to deter predators. Easy to keep and breed in captivity, it adapts to a range of water conditions and makes an ideal companion for other small community fish.
