Fahaka (Volta Form)

The Volta River basin form of Tetraodon lineatus is among the least frequently exported of the regional fahaka variants, collected from the Black Volta and White Volta systems in Ghana and Burkina Faso. It displays bold, highly contrasting dark horizontal stripes on a deep golden-orange base and tends toward a slightly stockier body proportion compared to the longer-bodied Nile form. The Volta drainage experiences pronounced dry-season water level drops, which may translate into greater tolerance of variable dissolved oxygen levels, though stable aquarium conditions are always preferable. Like all Tetraodon lineatus it is a formidable predator with a beak capable of inflicting serious bites and must be kept entirely alone in a very large dedicated aquarium.
