Fine-spotted Pleco L100

The Fine-spotted Pleco (L100) is a medium-to-large loricariid from the lower Amazon basin of Brazil. Its pale sandy-brown body is uniformly covered in countless tiny dark spots, giving it a pleasing, densely patterned appearance. It is a hardy, adaptable species with relatively undemanding care requirements compared to more extreme L-numbers from fast-flowing tributaries.

L100 is primarily herbivorous and grazes actively on algae and biofilm. In the aquarium provide spirulina wafers, algae pellets, blanched vegetables, and abundant driftwood for both grazing and shelter. Moderate water flow and regular maintenance suit this species well. It tolerates a reasonable range of water parameters, making it one of the more accessible medium-sized L-numbers for the general aquarist.

This species is peaceful and well-suited to larger community aquariums. Compatible with most robust South American fish including cichlids, tetras, and other loricariids. Provide adequate cave structures for shelter, and ensure the aquarium is large enough to accommodate its eventual adult size. A long-lived species that rewards patient, attentive care.
