Flame Tetra (Hyphessobrycon flammeus)

Hyphessobrycon flammeus, the Flame Tetra, has graced aquariums since the 1920s, making it one of the earliest tetras introduced to the hobby. Its body glows a rich crimson-red, deepening toward the tail, with contrasting black pigmentation in the dorsal and anal fins of mature fish. Males intensify in color during courtship and rivalry displays. Despite its ornate appearance, this species is exceptionally hardy and tolerant of a broad range of water parameters, making it ideal for beginners and experienced aquarists alike. A school of twelve or more creates a brilliant, shimmering display in any planted aquarium. It is omnivorous and readily accepts flake, micro-pellet, and frozen foods.
