Flash Pleco L204

Spectracanthicus sp. L204, the Flash Pleco, is a slim and agile loricariid from fast-flowing Venezuelan Andean river systems. Its pale cream to off-white body is marked with irregular dark horizontal dashes and streaks that create a 'flash' or 'lightning bolt' effect — an effective disruptive camouflage pattern against the sandy and rocky substrates of its habitat. It reaches only 10 cm, making it one of the more manageable medium-small plecos.

The Flash Pleco prefers slightly cooler conditions than many South American plecos — 24–28°C — and moderate to strong flow. A tank of at least 80 L with smooth rocks, some driftwood, and caves suits it well. Its omnivorous diet includes algae wafers, Repashy, blanched vegetables, and occasional meaty supplements.

This is a relatively peaceful and community-compatible species. Males are mildly territorial near caves but pose no threat to other fish. It is not commonly bred in captivity but the standard Hypancistrus-related cave-spawning approach has been applied successfully in well-maintained setups.
