Florida Dwarf Crayfish

Procambarus fallax is a small crayfish native to Florida's slow-moving and still freshwater habitats. It is notable for staying under 5 cm in length, making it among the smallest members of the genus and one of the very few Procambarus species that can be considered for nano aquaria. Its colouring ranges from olive-brown to grey-blue with subtle mottling.

Despite its small size, P. fallax retains the active, inquisitive character typical of Procambarus. It will explore every corner of its tank and may nibble on soft-leaved plants, though damage to robust species is minimal. It is far less destructive than larger Procambarus, making it more compatible with decorated planted setups.

This species can be kept in small groups in larger tanks if sufficient caves and territories are provided. It is generally safe with similarly-sized or larger peaceful fish that do not target it as food.
