Fluval Stratum is harvested from the mineral-rich volcanic soils of Mount Aso, Japan. Its porous structure supports beneficial bacterial colonies that help establish a healthy nitrogen cycle quickly. The substrate naturally lowers pH and provides a neutral to slightly acidic environment perfect for a wide variety of tropical fish and aquatic plants. Shrimp keepers particularly value it for its ability to mimic the natural substrates of Taiwan and Japan shrimp habitats.
