Geosesarma Dennerle Crab

Geosesarma sp. Dennerle is a commercial trade name applied to a line of vampire crabs selectively bred or collected to exhibit deep purple carapace colouration with the genus's characteristically vivid yellow eyes. Like all vampire crabs, it is a semi-terrestrial species that spends the majority of its time on land in humid forest-edge environments near freshwater.

In captivity, Geosesarma sp. Dennerle thrives in a well-designed paludarium with a substantial land area of tropical soil, leaf litter, and live plants alongside a small shallow freshwater pool. Humidity must be maintained at 70–90% to prevent desiccation. It is sociable with conspecifics and can be kept in mixed-sex groups.

Breeding is achievable in well-maintained paludariums: females brood a small clutch of large eggs, and the juveniles hatch as fully formed miniature crabs — unlike marine crabs, there is no larval stage in the water. This direct development makes Geosesarma species some of the most accessible crabs for captive breeding.
