The Glass Bloodfin Tetra is a graceful, elongated species with a near-transparent body that showcases its internal organs and skeleton, giving it an otherworldly appearance in the aquarium. Its most striking feature is the bright red coloration of the caudal fin, which creates a vivid contrast against the translucent body. Native to the rio GuaporΓ© basin spanning Bolivia and Brazil, it inhabits clear to slightly tannin-stained flowing waters with moderate current. Unlike many tetras, the Glass Bloodfin spends much of its time near the surface, actively patrolling the upper water column in tight, synchronous schools. It is a fast swimmer and appreciates tanks with ample open swimming space. This species is notably hardy and adaptable, tolerating a broad range of pH and hardness values, making it an excellent choice for community tanks with varied water parameters. It is completely peaceful and unlikely to bother even small tankmates. The transparent body and red tail make a school of ten or more truly spectacular when viewed under good lighting. It pairs well with mid- and bottom-dwelling species, occupying the top third of the tank and rarely competing with other inhabitants for space.
