The Glowlight Rasbora is a petite and beautiful member of the Trigonostigma genus, closely related to the iconic Harlequin Rasbora (T. heteromorpha) but more slender and decorated with a narrower, more intensely luminous orange to copper-gold stripe running along the upper lateral line above a reduced dark triangular marking at the rear of the body. This stripe has a quality of inner luminosity under good lighting, which accounts for the 'Glowlight' name. It reaches only 3.5 cm and is suited to nano and small aquaria. Native to the slow-moving, tannin-rich streams and swamp forests of Sumatra and Borneo, it is accustomed to soft, acidic, warm water with low conductivity. In the aquarium it shows its best colors and most confident behavior in conditions that approximate its natural habitat: dark substrate, soft acidic water, tannins from driftwood or botanicals, and warm temperatures. The Glowlight Rasbora is entirely peaceful and is an ideal companion for other nano species in a blackwater or planted setup. Like all Trigonostigma species, it is a quintessential schooling fish and should be kept in groups of eight or more for the most impressive display. It accepts small aquarium foods readily and is not difficult to keep when the correct water chemistry is provided.
