Gold Rosy Barb

The Gold Rosy Barb is a selectively bred variant of Pethia conchonius, the common Rosy Barb, in which the typical silver-pink colouration has been replaced by a rich golden-yellow body. Males retain the species' characteristic breeding flush, turning a deep orange-red on the flanks and belly when in condition. The contrast between the gold body and the intensely coloured fins and belly is spectacular in a well-lit aquarium.

Care requirements are identical to those of the standard Rosy Barb: it is one of the more adaptable and forgiving of all barbs, tolerating cool temperatures and a wide range of water conditions. It is among the best barbs for beginners who want colour without complexity. A school of six or more in a planted tank with open swimming space is ideal.

Like the standard form, the Gold Rosy Barb is an enthusiastic omnivore accepting all standard aquarium foods. It is an ideal 'dither fish' for cooler community tanks and is particularly well-suited to temperate aquarium setups where many tropical fish would struggle.
