Goslinia Flatwhisker

Goslinia platynema is a monotypic genus from the Amazon basin closely related to Brachyplatystoma and shares many characteristics including a long, flattened rostrum and elongated maxillary barbels. It is a substantial fish capable of reaching 70 cm and produces significant biological waste in captivity.

In the wild it inhabits large Amazonian river channels and migrates seasonally like many pimelodids. In captivity it requires an enormous, well-filtered tank and pristine water quality. It is an active, open-water predator and should be provided with a very long tank allowing normal swimming behaviour.

Goslinia platynema is very rarely imported and is of specialist interest only. Its care follows the template of other large Amazonian pimelodids, demanding high standards of husbandry and exceptional facilities.
