Grandisquamis Moenkhausia

Moenkhausia grandisquamis, the Large-scaled Moenkhausia, is a moderately sized tetra from rivers of Guyana and Venezuela. Its most notable feature is the set of unusually large scales with dark outlines that give the fish a distinctive net or lattice pattern across its silver body. This is an uncommon trait among characins and makes the species instantly recognizable. An active swimmer, it occupies the mid-water column and pairs well with larger, calmer South American species. It is undemanding in terms of water chemistry, accepting soft to moderately hard conditions. Groups of six or more are recommended to bring out natural schooling behavior.
