Granti Leporinus

Leporinus granti is a seldom-seen species from the rivers of Guyana, displaying a slender body with fine longitudinal dark stripes running along a pale cream background. Its elongated, torpedo-shaped body and more subtle patterning give it an elegant appearance distinct from the boldly banded or arched species. It is occasionally available from specialist importers catering to the South American biotope community.

Care follows the pattern of other large Leporinus: spacious aquarium, strong flow, secure lid, and a primarily plant-based diet. Its softer-water Guyanese origins suggest it may benefit from somewhat softer, more acidic water than some relatives, though it adapts to moderately hard conditions once established.

A rewarding species for collectors of the genus, L. granti is best kept singly or in small groups with large, peaceful South American companions. Its rarity in the hobby makes any acquisition noteworthy.
