The Green Jade Shrimp is a captive-bred Neocaridina davidi colour morph selected for a deep, vivid green body colouration, which is genuinely unusual among freshwater invertebrates. The green ranges from a mossy olive-green in lower-grade specimens to a rich, saturated jade or emerald green in premium lines, and the colour is distributed uniformly across the body with an appealing, almost glassy depth in the finest individuals.
Green shrimp are relatively uncommon in the hobby compared to red, blue, or yellow Neocaridina morphs, making Green Jade Shrimp a distinctly premium and eye-catching option. The green colouration is most vivid in well-fed adults and is heavily influenced by diet — high-quality foods containing spirulina, chlorella, and plant-based nutrients are particularly effective at intensifying and maintaining the green pigmentation.
Despite its premium aesthetics, the Green Jade Shrimp is no more difficult to keep than any other Neocaridina variant. It shares the same wide parameter tolerance, prolific breeding habits, and detritivore diet as Cherry Shrimp and other popular Neocaridina morphs. A planted aquarium with neutral or slightly acidic water, clean conditions, and varied feeding is all that is required. The green colouration contrasts particularly well against red stem plants, white sand, and dark hardscape, offering aquascape designers an unusual and naturalistic colour element in the invertebrate layer.
