Hancock's Catfish

Amblydoras hancocki is among the smallest of the doradids and one of the most commonly encountered in the trade. Its brown body is patterned with pale spots and flecks, and rows of lateral spiny scutes provide armoured protection. Like all talking catfish, it produces croaking sounds when handled or disturbed.

In the aquarium, Hancock's Catfish is entirely peaceful and undemanding. It thrives in community tanks with ample cover and a varied diet of sinking foods. It is primarily nocturnal but will venture out during the day in densely planted or dimly lit tanks. It is among the most long-lived of the commonly available small catfish.

This species is highly recommended for aquarists looking for an unusual, durable, and peaceful bottom dweller. Its modest size, peaceful temperament, and ease of care make it suitable even for beginners.
