Haplochromis sp. 'Red Tail Spot' is an undescribed Victorian haplochromine that takes its common name from the vivid red spot at the base of the caudal fin in adult males. This marking is highly conspicuous and appears to play a role in intraspecific signalling, possibly mimicking egg spots on the anal fin as part of a broader reproductive strategy. The rest of the body is blue-grey with variable intensity depending on hierarchy and breeding condition.

Care requirements are typical of mid-sized Victorian haplochromines: hard alkaline water, rocky décor, and a harem keeping arrangement. The species breeds freely in captivity and is a good choice for aquarists looking to establish a self-sustaining Victorian colony without seeking out the most aggressive or demanding species.
