Haplochromis sp. 'Thick Skin' is an undescribed Victorian haplochromine that derives its common name from a perceived heaviness or roughness of its scaling texture compared to other Victorian species. Adult males develop attractive blue and gold colouration at maturity, with the gold component often appearing along the midline and lower flanks. The species has a somewhat deeper and more robust body shape than many slender Victorian haplochromines.

In the aquarium, Thick Skin haplochromines exhibit typical Victorian cichlid behaviour: territorial males, maternal mouthbrooding females, and a preference for rocky environments. They are moderately aggressive and can be accommodated in a Victorian community with careful species selection, provided all tankmates are of comparable size.

Feeding is uncomplicated — quality cichlid pellets form the staple, supplemented by spirulina-based foods and frozen invertebrates. As with all Victorian cichlids, consistent water quality management prevents the bloat and wasting conditions that can affect this species group.

Orders are processed within 1-2 business days. Standard shipping typically takes 3-5 business days.
