Harlequin Shrimp

The freshwater Harlequin Shrimp is a Caridina spinata variant from the ancient lake system of Sulawesi displaying an irregular, highly individual mosaic pattern of contrasting dark and pale patches across the body. Unlike the more uniform patterning of other Sulawesi shrimp, the Harlequin's unpredictable colouration means each specimen is unique, adding to its collectible appeal.

As with all Sulawesi shrimp, this species requires the warm, hard, alkaline water conditions of its native ancient lakes. The aquarium must replicate Sulawesi biotope conditions with appropriate mineral supplementation, warm temperatures, and algae-covered surfaces for biofilm grazing.

The Harlequin Shrimp is exceptionally rare in the hobby and commands premium prices. It is a prestigious challenge species for advanced keepers with dedicated Sulawesi setups.
