Pseudomugil mellis is endemic to the coastal lowland swamps and streams of a very restricted area of southeast Queensland, where habitat destruction has made it critically endangered in the wild. Its warm honey-yellow body and attractive yellow-edged fins with vivid blue eyes make it a beautiful nano species. The aquarium hobby plays an important role in maintaining a viable captive population.
