Hygrophila corymbosa (Emergent)

Hygrophila corymbosa, Giant Hygrophila or Temple Plant, is one of the largest aquarium stem plants commonly available, and in its emergent form it reaches its full potential as a substantial shrub with broad, paddle-shaped, light-green leaves on purple-tinged stems. Mature emergent plants can exceed 80 cm in height and develop a woody lower stem, giving them a permanently established look that mimics true tropical waterside vegetation.

In large paludariums it is most impressive when planted in groups along the back section, where its bold form and significant height create a convincing tropical waterway atmosphere. Regular pinching of the growing tips maintains a bushier habit and delays the plant from becoming top-heavy. Whorls of small lilac flowers are produced along the upper stems when the plant reaches full emergent maturity.
