Hygrophila difformis Water Wisteria

Hygrophila difformis is native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, where it grows along riverbanks and in shallow, nutrient-rich waterways. In aquariums it is celebrated for its rapid growth — sometimes several centimetres per day — and its ability to absorb large quantities of nitrogen, phosphorus, and CO2, making it an outstanding algae deterrent. Its leaves are deeply pinnate, resembling true ferns, and vary from bright green to yellow-green depending on lighting. The plant adapts equally well to planted and community tanks.
