Hyperopisus Bebe

Hyperopisus bebe is a large, torpedo-shaped Mormyrid found across multiple major African river systems including the Nile, Niger, and Congo basins. Unlike the dramatically snouted Campylomormyrus relatives, its snout is only moderately elongated, giving it a more conventional piscine profile. The iridescent silver body and smooth, powerful form make it an elegant occupant of a large African display tank.

This species demands very spacious aquariums with excellent filtration and stable water quality. Dim lighting, fine sand substrate, and hiding areas are essential. Like all Mormyrids, it employs a weak electric organ discharge for navigation, communication, and prey detection, and will interfere electrically with conspecifics, making solo housing mandatory in most setups.

Hyperopisus bebe feeds primarily on invertebrates and small fish in the wild. In captivity, a varied diet of frozen meaty foods alongside sinking pellets is recommended. This is a long-lived, demanding species suitable only for experienced aquarists with very large tanks.
