Infusoria Starter Culture

Infusoria — the collective term for microscopic single-celled organisms including paramecia, rotifers, and euglenoids — are the ideal first food for the tiniest fry that cannot take brine shrimp nauplii or micro-powder foods. This starter culture contains a measured blend of dried organic matter including chopped hay, crushed wheat grain, and dormant spore-forming micro-organisms.

Adding a teaspoon of the starter to a jar of aged tank water and placing it in indirect light produces a thriving infusoria culture within 3–5 days. The culture appears cloudy with a slight odour when ready. A small daily dose of the culture water fed directly to the fry tank provides adequate nutrition for fish in their first week of free-swimming life. The product is suitable for egglayer fry of all nano and small aquarium species.
