Janpap's Nothobranch

Nothobranchius janpapi is a relatively recently described annual killifish from seasonal floodplain pools in Tanzania. Males display the typical Nothobranchius mosaic of red and blue iridescent scales, with a vividly patterned caudal fin that serves as a courtship signal to females. The species is still uncommon in the hobby, making it a desirable find for killifish collectors.

Care requirements are typical for the genus — a dedicated species tank with peat substrate, soft acidic water, and regular live or frozen food. Eggs should be harvested from the substrate and stored in slightly moist peat for 8–10 weeks before re-wetting. Fry are relatively large at hatching and can immediately take newly hatched Artemia nauplii.
