Java Fern 'Narrow Leaf'

Java Fern 'Narrow Leaf' (Microsorum pteropus 'Narrow Leaf') is a cultivar whose leaves are noticeably thinner than the standard Java Fern but broader than the extreme Needle Leaf form. This intermediate profile makes it a versatile midground plant — delicate enough for detailed aquascapes, yet substantial enough to hold visual weight in larger layouts.

Cultivation is identical to all Java Fern varieties. The rhizome must remain above substrate and be secured to hardscape. The plant tolerates a very wide range of water conditions and does not require CO2 or intense lighting, though both will accelerate growth. It generates adventitious plantlets on leaf surfaces that can be harvested for propagation.

Narrow Leaf Java Fern is particularly effective when planted in groups on a single large branch of driftwood, with individual rhizomes spaced to allow each plant room to display its graceful leaf form. Under moderate lighting, mature leaves develop a rich, deep green colour with distinctive dark venation.
