Java Fern 'Needle Leaf'

Java Fern 'Needle Leaf' (Microsorum pteropus 'Needle Leaf') produces notably narrow, elongated leaves compared to the standard variety — resembling blades of grass more than typical fern fronds. This distinctive silhouette makes it a useful textural counterpoint to broad-leafed plants such as Anubias or standard Java Fern when grouped together on the same piece of driftwood.

The plant inherits all the robustness of the parent species: it attaches easily to hardscape via its rhizome, tolerates a broad pH and hardness range, and requires no CO2 injection or intense lighting. Growth is slow, so place it where it will have room to develop without frequent trimming.

Needle Leaf Java Fern is popular in Japanese-influenced nature aquascapes where its grass-like form adds a sense of naturalistic delicacy. It also suits nano aquariums well due to its compact leaf profile, though mature plants can reach up to 20 cm.
