Java Fern 'Trident'

Java Fern 'Trident' (Microsorum pteropus 'Trident') is one of the most architecturally striking Java Fern cultivars. Each leaf is deeply divided, typically into three major prongs — hence the name — although some leaves may branch more extensively. The result is a plant that reads as visually complex even from a distance, making it an excellent midground focal point.

Cultivation is identical to the standard Java Fern: attach the rhizome to hardscape with thread or aquarium-safe glue and allow it to establish over several weeks. Once secured, the plant is extremely tolerant of a wide range of water conditions and will produce offset plants from both the rhizome and leaf margins over time.

In layouts, 'Trident' works well alongside smoother-leafed plants such as Anubias or standard Java Fern to provide contrasting texture. Its slightly darker green coloration also makes it an effective backdrop for lighter mosses such as Java Moss or Christmas Moss.
