JBL Denitrol

JBL Denitrol is a live bacterial culture specifically formulated to inoculate new filter media with the nitrifying bacteria needed to convert ammonia into nitrite and then into the less toxic nitrate. JBL's formulation uses both Nitrosomonas (ammonia-oxidising) and Nitrobacter (nitrite-oxidising) strains, covering both stages of the aerobic nitrogen cycle.

Denitrol is suitable for use in new tank setups, after filter media replacements, or as a recovery supplement following any event that depletes beneficial bacteria populations. The concentrated liquid format allows it to be poured directly over filter media for maximum bacterial colonisation, which is a more effective delivery method than adding to the open water column.

JBL recommends combining Denitrol with their Filterstart product for even faster filter maturation.
