Leptodoras juruensis is one of the more slender and elongated members of the Doradidae, adapted for life in the mid-water column of Amazonian rivers rather than the heavy-cover substrate niches favoured by most doradids. It is native to the Juruá River system in the upper Amazon basin of Brazil, an area rich in endemic catfish species. Its more streamlined body and schooling behaviour make it unusual within the family.

In the aquarium, Leptodoras juruensis benefits from being kept in groups rather than alone — a notable departure from the typically solitary disposition of most talking catfish. It is an active swimmer that will cruise open water in tight groups, especially when the tank is dimly lit. Despite its size it is a carnivore that feeds on invertebrates and small prey items.

This species is best suited to a large, softwater Amazonian biotope with open swimming space, gentle current, and a group of conspecifics. Keep with peaceful, similarly sized community fish such as larger tetras or other schooling species. Feed with small sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm, and daphnia.

Orders are processed within 1-2 business days. Standard shipping typically takes 3-5 business days.
