Killifish Egg Storage Peat

Annual killifish such as Nothobranchius, Austrolebias, and Pterolebias naturally survive the complete dry season as eggs buried in the mud of temporary pools. In the aquarium hobby, this diapause is replicated by storing eggs in slightly damp peat moss sealed in polythene bags at room temperature for 2–6 months depending on the species. The quality of the storage peat directly affects embryo survival during this critical period.

This sterilised sphagnum peat is pH-adjusted and processed to ensure a consistent moisture retention capacity that keeps eggs at the optimal semi-moist state throughout the storage period — too wet and eggs fungus; too dry and they desiccate. The product is free of weed seeds and pathogens that could contaminate egg batches. Each 250g packet provides enough peat for 5–10 spawning batches from a productive pair.
