Hypancistrus sp. L066, the King Tiger Pleco, is a mid-sized loricariid from the warm rocky reaches of the Rio Xingu in Brazil. Its entire body is covered in a dense, winding labyrinthine pattern of black lines and cream-white ground colour that creates an almost abstract artistic appearance. It is closely related to the L046 Zebra Pleco and shares the same general care requirements and cave-breeding behaviour.

At up to 16 cm the King Tiger is larger than most Hypancistrus and requires a tank of at least 150 L. It thrives in warm (26–30°C), well-oxygenated water with moderate to strong flow. Diet should include both meaty and algae-based sinking foods, reflecting its omnivorous nature. Males are territorial toward each other and should each have their own cave.

The King Tiger is regularly bred in captivity and is considered moderately achievable for experienced hobbyists. Its clutch size is modest — typically 10–20 eggs — and the male guards the fry inside the cave. It is an excellent centrepiece species for a large Xingu-themed biotope.
