Kohaku Swordtail Male

The Kohaku Swordtail is named after the most famous koi variety, the Kohaku, characterised by a white body with red patches. This swordtail strain replicates the same aesthetic at a fraction of the size, with males showing individual and unpredictable distributions of red and white that make every fish unique.

The random pattern distribution in Kohaku Swordtails means that no two fish are identical, which adds a collectible quality to the strain. Patterns range from fish that are predominantly white with red patches to near-entirely red fish with white accents.

Breeding for consistency of pattern is challenging because the patch distribution is largely random; however, selecting parents with bold, high-contrast patterns tends to produce offspring with more defined markings.
