Labeotropheus trewavasae 'OB'

Labeotropheus trewavasae 'OB' refers specifically to the orange blotch polymorphic morph of this species — males and females carrying irregular patches of orange and black overlaid on a variable base colour. The OB gene in L. trewavasae produces striking, individually unique patterns, making each fish visually distinct. OB males are especially dramatic, with vivid orange blotch colouration that persists through adulthood.

Functionality and care are identical to locale forms of L. trewavasae: the underslung snout for surge-zone algae grazing, strict herbivory requirements, territorial aggression, and maternal mouthbrooding females holding 21–28 days. OB L. trewavasae are typically tank-bred and commonly available. Maintaining a pure OB line requires careful management of breeding groups. As with all Labeotropheus, hard, alkaline water and an algae-only diet are non-negotiable for health and longevity.
