Lava Rock Red (per kg)

Red Lava Rock is a highly porous volcanic stone formed from rapidly cooled lava flows, resulting in a sponge-like internal and external structure packed with micro-cavities. Its distinctive deep red to rust colouration adds warm natural tones to aquascapes and provides striking contrast against green plants and dark substrates.

Beyond aesthetics, the enormous surface area of lava rock makes it one of the best natural biological filter media available. Beneficial nitrifying bacteria colonise the stone's pores rapidly, contributing meaningful filtration capacity in addition to its decorative role. For this reason, lava rock is commonly used both as an aquascape hardscape element and as a filter medium.

Lava rock is pH neutral and does not release any chemicals that would harm fish, shrimp, or plants. It is particularly popular in African cichlid tanks, brackish setups, and planted aquariums where robust biological filtration is desired alongside natural-looking rockwork.
