Leiodon Puffer

Leiodon cutcutia has been reclassified from Tetraodon based on molecular and morphological analysis, becoming the sole representative of a newly erected genus. The smooth, entirely scaleless body and subtle spotted pattern distinguish it from similar-looking South Asian puffers. It inhabits the Ganga-Brahmaputra river system and adjoining floodplain waters, where it preys on invertebrates and small fish. Like Tetraodon cutcutia it exhibits paternal mouthbrooding, with the male briefly protecting developing eggs. The aquarium must be decorated to mimic floodplain conditions with a sandy base, leaf litter, and gentle filtration. Water temperature swings should be avoided as this species originates from seasonally variable environments where temperature fluctuation is gradual.
