Lemon Drop Pleco LDA019

Hemiancistrus sp. LDA019, the Lemon Drop Pleco, is a vibrantly coloured loricariid from fast-flowing Andean foothill rivers in Colombia and Venezuela. Its body is a clean, bright lemon-yellow to golden-yellow, creating a striking visual contrast against dark substrates or rocky backdrops. It is one of several yellow-coloured Hemiancistrus in the trade, distinguished from L239 by the absence of the blue eye and by its slightly larger build.

The Lemon Drop LDA019 prefers moderately cool temperatures of 22–27°C, reflecting its Andean origin in rivers fed by cooler mountain water. It requires good oxygenation and moderate to strong flow. A tank of 100 L with smooth rocks, caves, and driftwood suits it well. Its omnivorous diet includes algae wafers, Repashy, bloodworms, and blanched vegetables.

This species is regularly available in the specialist trade and has been bred in captivity. Males are territorial near caves but entirely peaceful with other species. Its bright colour, manageable size of 12 cm, and relatively straightforward care make it an attractive choice for intermediate hobbyists.
