Leopard Frog Pleco L134

Peckoltia compta, the Leopard Frog Pleco (L134), is a compact and vividly patterned loricariid from the Rio Tapajós in Brazil. Its pale cream to yellow base colour is decorated with dense black reticulations and spots that, along with its frog-like eye position, give it an unmistakable resemblance to a leopard frog. Colouration is particularly vivid in well-fed, mature males in good condition.

At only 10 cm this is a manageable and community-friendly pleco suitable for aquariums of 80 L or more. It thrives in warm (26–30°C) water with moderate flow and requires caves for shelter. Its omnivorous diet includes both algae-based and protein-rich foods — algae wafers, Repashy, bloodworms, and brine shrimp all accepted readily.

The Leopard Frog Pleco is one of the more commonly captive-bred L-numbers and is a great choice for hobbyists wanting to try breeding loricariids. Males are territorial toward each other but peaceful with other species. A breeding group of one male and two females in a cave-rich setup is ideal.
