Lethrinops parvidens

Lethrinops parvidens is one of the smaller members of the genus, characterized by small fine-tipped teeth suited to extracting tiny invertebrates from sandy substrate. In breeding males, the base silver-grey coloration is enhanced by blue-silver iridescence on the flanks and warm orange pelvic fins that are displayed prominently during courtship dances over the sandy floor.

This species is among the most peaceful Lethrinops and can be kept in groups including multiple males in adequately sized aquaria, where the inter-male displays create an attractive natural spectacle. The compact size makes it a good option for Malawi biotopes in the 200 L range, provided the sandy substrate and water chemistry requirements are met.

Maternal mouthbrooder with small to moderate broods. Females are dull silver-grey. Breeds readily without intervention in a species or compatible community tank. An excellent gateway species into Lethrinops for keepers new to sand-sifting Malawi cichlids.
