Lilith Eartheater (Tapajós)

Satanoperca lilith is among the largest members of the genus, native exclusively to the Rio Tapajós drainage of Pará, Brazil. The Tapajós is a clear-water river of exceptional transparency, which shapes this species' requirement for high water clarity and low dissolved organics. S. lilith displays a large, prominent lateral blotch and attractive yellow-orange margins on the dorsal and caudal fins. As a delayed mouthbrooder it forms loose groups; in captivity a group of five or more adults in a large aquarium produces the most natural behaviour. The species tolerates moderate current better than most Satanoperca, reflecting the Tapajós' clearer, moderately flowing nature. Excellent biological filtration, warm temperatures, and fine sand are non-negotiable care requirements.
