Limnophila hippuridoides

Limnophila hippuridoides is a Southeast Asian species named for its resemblance to the horsetail plant (Hippuris). The narrow, elongated leaves are arranged in dense whorls of 8–12, and under high light they develop a deep purple-red to magenta colouration that is unusual and highly distinctive among whorled stem plants.

It grows more vigorously than many specialist stems and is somewhat more tolerant of harder water than other Limnophila species, making it slightly more accessible without being easy. CO2 injection is required for best colour and compact growth. Regular trimming every 1–2 weeks maintains the desired dense, columnar shape.

An excellent choice for creating bold purple-red vertical accents in the background of Dutch layouts, and striking when contrasted with green feathery stems such as Myriophyllum or Cabomba.
