Striuntius lineatus is native to rivers and streams of Borneo and the Malay Peninsula, where it inhabits moderately flowing, clear to slightly tannin-stained waters with sandy substrates and submerged wood. It is a medium-sized, active barb with a clean silver body traversed by a single bold dark stripe running horizontally from the snout to the caudal peduncle — a pattern that is sharper and more graphic than in most barb species. The fins carry red highlights that intensify in breeding condition.

In the aquarium this species is active, peaceful, and schools beautifully. A group of eight or more creates a cohesive, fast-moving school that dominates mid-water. It appreciates moderately flowing, well-oxygenated water and a tank with some open space as well as planted cover. A biotope setup replicating a Bornean forest stream suits it ideally.

Feeding Striuntius lineatus is uncomplicated: it accepts quality flake, pellets, and frozen or live invertebrates. It is entirely peaceful toward other species, making it suitable for a wide variety of Southeast Asian community aquariums.
