Longfin Convict Cichlid

The Longfin Convict Cichlid carries a recessive long-fin mutation that greatly extends the dorsal, anal, and caudal fins, giving the fish a flowing, veil-tailed appearance that transforms the modest standard form into a considerably more ornate fish. The classic black vertical banding on the white-grey body remains unchanged, making the Longfin a visually appealing ornamental variety.

Despite their elegant finnage, Longfin Convicts are no less aggressive than the standard form and will defend territory and breeding sites with the same intensity. The extended fins do require some additional care to prevent damage: sharp décor and fin-nipping tankmates should be avoided.

Longfin Convicts breed as readily as standard forms, and the long-fin trait breeds true when two longfin individuals are paired. They are accessible to beginner cichlid keepers who wish to experience cichlid breeding and parental behaviour in an attractive package.
