Lorteti (Cambodia Mekong Form)

The Cambodian Mekong form of Carinotetraodon lorteti is collected from slow floodplain tributaries and backwaters of the Mekong system in Cambodia, where turbid, warmer water is typical compared to the clearer Thai rivers further upstream. Cambodian specimens tend toward a more olive-green base colouration with slightly reduced spot contrast and a warmer body temperature preference. The vivid crimson eyes remain the most striking feature. Care follows standard C. lorteti protocol but this form benefits from slightly higher temperatures. It can be kept as a single male with one or two females, and a mature planted tank with plenty of microhabitat variation will encourage natural territorial behaviour and potential spawning. Water quality must be maintained to a high standard.
