Lourenso's Nothobranch

Nothobranchius lourensi is an annual killifish from coastal Mozambique, inhabiting short-lived seasonal pools that form during the rainy season. Males display deep red body colouration with metallic blue scale edging producing a vivid reticulated effect, while the caudal fin typically shows contrasting banding. The species is uncommon in the hobby but appreciated by specialists for its bold colouration.

Like other coastal Mozambican Nothobranchius, N. lourensi thrives in soft, warm water. A peat substrate is essential to trigger natural egg-burying behaviour. After collection, eggs should be stored in slightly moist peat for 8–10 weeks before being re-wetted to induce hatching. Fry are robust and grow quickly on a diet of micro-foods and Artemia nauplii.
